Why Baby's skin is not safe in sun ?

Exposure to sunlight is important for synthesizing vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in a baby's growth and development. However, it’s equally important to ensure that sunlight exposure is safe for your baby’s delicate skin. Direct sunlight contains harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, including UV-B and UV-C rays, which can damage a baby’s sensitive skin and increase the risk of sunburn or other skin-related issues.

According to American guidelines, infants, especially newborns, should not be exposed to direct sunlight, particularly during peak hours when the sun’s rays are strongest. This typically includes late morning to early afternoon. Instead, it is recommended to take your baby outside for brief periods during the early morning, ideally between 8 AM and 10 AM, when the intensity of UV rays is lower.

To ensure your baby’s safety, you should limit direct sunlight exposure to about 15 to 20 minutes during this time. Even then, it’s best to keep your baby in a shaded area, such as under a canopy, umbrella, or in a partially covered space like a porch. This way, the baby can still receive the benefits of sunlight without being exposed to its harsher effects.

Conclusion:

Taking these precautions allows your baby to safely absorb the necessary amount of sunlight to support the natural production of vitamin D, which is essential for healthy bone development and overall well-being. By following these guidelines, you can balance the benefits of sunlight with the need to protect your baby’s sensitive skin
