A Newborn Who Won’t Burp Tips & Tricks

As a parent or soon-to-be parent, you’ve likely heard about the importance of burping your baby after feeding. However, what should you do if your newborn won’t burp? Here are some tips and tricks to help your little one burp easily:

Why is Burping Important?

Burping helps release air that may have become trapped inside the baby during feeding. Burping is especially important for bottle-fed babies, as they tend to swallow more air while feeding than breastfed babies. If a baby doesn’t burp for a long time, they may become irritable, restless, or even spit up. Overfeeding your baby may also cause them to choke or vomit. Therefore, it’s important for the baby to burp.

When Should You Burp? Burp your baby after every feed, including during the night. Even if your baby seems to fall asleep quickly, you should still attempt to burp them before laying them down.

Challenges of Burping:

Breastfed infants typically eat fewer air bubbles than bottle-fed infants. Some babies may find it challenging to burp due to their position.

Tips and Tricks to Help Your Baby Burp Patting or bouncing your baby: gently pat or bounce your baby on your shoulder or lap, supporting their head and neck. Changing the baby’s position: try placing your baby in a different position, such as upright or with their legs gently bent. Experimenting with various burping positions: try different positions, such as laying your baby on their stomach or across your lap, and gently pat or rub their back. Using burping exercises: try exercises that help your baby release trapped air, such as moving their legs in a cycling motion or pushing their knees towards their chest. Stretching their body: carefully stretch your baby’s arms and legs, ensuring that you support their head and neck.

What to Do if Your Baby Still Doesn’t Burp If you’ve tried different techniques and your baby still isn’t burping, it’s best to consult your pediatrician. They may suggest different positions or techniques to help your baby burp more easily.

Expert Recommendations:

  • Your baby will eventually learn to burp on their own as they grow and develop.
  • Not all babies need to burp after every feeding, so pay attention to your baby’s cues and adjust accordingly.
  • If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your pediatrician for guidance. We are just a WhatsApp message away and ready to assist you with the help you need quickly and conveniently.
